He had come to the 23rd Tour in 2010, in principle as a guest, but he soon found himself being working with the orga-team as a part-time jack-of-all-trades wherever a hand was needed. Before he could say “hi,” he sat in the neutral service car.
Having extensive experience in organising, planning, and holding various kinds of sport events, plus a number of other non-profit pastimes, he was like the one the team had looked for to step in in the race office.
When in 2011 long-time organizers, Gitta and Volkmar Lübeck retired, as well they merited, Martin stepped in, with Rainer Gerth, to manage the race office.
In the meantime, he has also added all aspects of accommodation management, day-to-day finances, and all those tiny and sometimes not to tiny challenges the Tour sets before us, to his responsibilities.
The 51 non-Tour weeks of the years see the father of two at a great many non-pro runs and triathlons.
